| I Liked: Great food |
| I didn't like: pizza parlor atmosphere |
A find in Oceanside I noticed this new restaurant, as I was driving by, in a rather downscale shopping center off Mission Avenue in Oceanside. When I saw a significant discount offered for it via restaurant.com, my wife and I decided to try it out. The decor is somewhat reminiscant of a piza parlor, and we had some second thoughts as we walked in. But the waiter was very friendly, and the menu looked interesting so we decided to try it.
Much to our surprise, the food turned out to be excellent! Starting with tortilla chips which were freshly made and accompanied by two excellent homemade salsas. I had the grilled Mahi Mahi with vegetables and a baked potatoe in place of the Rosemary potatoe which was not available $17). The fish was fresh, very nicely grilled. The vegetables, which I rather expected would be warmed up frozen ones, turned out to be fresh and grilled to perfection. Even the side order of coleslaw was very good.. not the usual stuff drenched in mayonaise. My wife, somewhat of a pasta critic, declare the Alfredo Fettucini with six large shrimp ($10) to be a winner.. and took home some of large portion which she couldn't finish.
The place does not have a liquor license, and does not yet server desserts (though the waiter said these were going to be offered soon.) It seems to be a family run operation: The food is prepared by the father and mother and served by their son. There is a bit of a wait for the food since everything seems to be prepared freshly as it is ordered.
Definately a find!

Great Food! The food is exceptional! I've been to Brisas four times now, first time ordered the Grilled Salmon and I am very picky with my salmon! The Chef grilled it to perfection, the grilled veggies were exceptionally good and the baked potato was very good as well. My wife ordered the NY Strip Steak and it was also done to perfection, medium - juicy not overcooked. My second time, I ordered the Grilled Salmon again just to make sure that the first time was not a fluke, it wasn't. Salmon is so very easy to ruin by overcooking and the Chef knows that magic moment to pull it off the grill. My Son had the Fish & Chips, they use Mahi Mahi to make fish and chips. Talk about good! I stole a bite from my son's plate, actually traded him a piece of my salmon. The menue leaves a little to be desired, lots of spelling and grammitical errors, but I have been assured that they are having new menu's made. Also, the waitress we had this last visit, she needs to dress more professionally and learn how to perform as a waitress. Personally, she came close to ruining our experience. But the Chef saved the day with his perfectly prepared dishes and the wonder flavors! Regardless of the poorly wait-staff, I have to rate Brisas Excellent. I believe that the wait-staff are young family members and they will either learn or the Chef will lose business due to their inexperience.
