I Liked: location,staff,food
I didn't like: not thinking of this place my self
best sushi, great place
Well first of all if you looking for your easy going sushi bar this is the place its has some great facts about this place, one thing they do is that they accept local artist to auction off there art the also have two brother and wife and family that work there and yes they are two white guys behind the bar, but I dont know last time I checked when has america every invented their own food, united states has adopted everyone elses food from around the world so I personaly think its amazing to see another culture adopting another food to make. on another note this place serves a local brewery beer pizza port beer on tap. You see I love going to places that like to keep it local. So if you would like to try some thing new try this place.

I Liked: THE FOOD & THE VIBE
I didn't like: LEAVING
WELL WORTH IT!!!!
I'm in town for business this week so I asked the girl at the front desk of my hotel where the locals eat.She suggested that I check o'side alive & there it was everything I wanted to know! What a great website! On to The Fish Joint,I almost skipped this place because of a recent review I read, but my third night here I had a sushi craving &the other spots looked like all you can eat spots -ok -but I wanted real sushi. What an amazing place! Who would have thought that some of the best sushi i've ever had would be at this little place in oceanside? Both the Sushi-Chef and the waitress treated me like family right off the bat.I started off with some beautiful oysters the chef then made me a sashimi selection that i'd be lucky to get back in New York.I topped it off with sushi Jalapeno poppers that I chased with a beer from Oceanside Ale Works also A+ .I will definatley return!

I Liked: Local artwork
I didn't like: Forgettable food at high prices
Disappointing
This place has gone downhill - the prices have always been significantly higher than other sushi spots but at least a year ago the food fully justified the premium. I went recently and was altogether dissatisfied - the appetizer was oversalted and rubbery and the rolls we ordered were completely forgettable. As much as I enjoy the ambiance (especially some excellent local artwork) I have to say this is the only redeeming quality - I hate to say it, but this is one to be avoided.

I Liked: Live seafood specials
I didn't like: the seating on the sushi bar far left
Like a night out on the town!
My boyfriend and I went in on a Friday night but it was packed! We really didn't want to wait but there were so many people there that we knew, we didn't want to leave! It was like going out to the bars, but a much better place to see people we know. The food was awesome as was the service and for sure the atmosphere. I'm excited to see that we can actually go somewhere other than a bar and have such a great time! I will be back for sure! Next time with THE GIRLS!!!

FISH JOINT--not your fathers sushi bar
TO be honest I was a little apprehensive when I first read a menu and saw an american behind the sushi bar. The menu looked great but I enjoy the basics(traditional) just as much as I do adventure. After a 20 min. wait we were seated at the bar and immediately put at ease with not only the best Jappaneese Yellowtail Ive had in along time, but Kanpachi(a cousin of the yellowtail). My date,(more of a roll eater)had the Mango Maddness and the Chronic roll, both were really good! I will be back for the live Sea Urchin.

Fish Joint -- not so much
Try a real sushi place... Kurando is good in Oside. Fish Joint - Uppity Tweaker Service, fair fish, over sauced rolls. Best about it is the beer (Pizza Port - nice) and the Tako is good. Medicore at best. Hill Street Cafe next door - same owner - much better

I Liked: Scubby Snacks
Interesting place
This is definitely the yuppy surfer joint. It acts like a surfer joint with the atmosphere but the prices are definitely yuppy or dink lifestyle. Sushi is good but the specialty rolls all seem very similar. I do recommend the Scooby snacks.

I Liked: The Pizza Roll
I didn't like: NOTHING!!!
The Fish Joint is my new addiction. They have awesome sushi, very original house rolls, and they serve the Carlsbad Chronic beer from Pizza Port. The restaurant itself has A LOT of personality, from the decorations to the menu. The service is always great too. Younger staff, hip and friendly. Don't hesitate to go, this place is packed with a ll of my favorites!
