Great place! I'm big on local food, the Fish Joint was one of the best. Service was great, we showed up at a busy time, but they gave us two comp appitizers while we waited on our order. One was the spicy squid, it was the first time I've ever eaten squid and it was tender. Most of the time it's like chewing on rubber. I did not mind the fact it took awhile for our order to get done, because they served an order one at a time. There were five of us there and we ordered 15 different rolls. The food was refreshing and some of the best rolls I have ever had. To whoever called this a yuppie dive your wrong!! It is fresh and a great change for food.!!! I might be from Arkansas but I know good food when I taste it and it was worth the price! Great job Fish Joint! My next trip to California I will eat here again!!

The Best Don't pay attention to the 2 negative comments below. They obviously don't have great taste in food or enjoy having a fun casual dining experience. I've been going to the fish joint for bout 2 years now and you don't have to be a "surfer" or"tweaker" (as they say below) to enjoy it. The brothers that run the place are awesome and so is their sushi. The house rolls are so creative "The Chronic" is awesome. If you want a fun original place to go out to eat for the night the fish joint is definitely the place.

Two white guys who do Japanese well Well my son and I have been here a couple of times now. We eat a lot of sushi together and this place is really unique. We are used to some of the best sushi on the planet from up in the LA/Ventura area. This place is a refreshing change. Super casual and super friendly staff who are always on top of things. Great service from intro to the bill. Never had a bad dish here and the seafood ingredients always seem really fresh. It seems as though now this is the only place we go to dinner in Oceanside. I would highly reccomend this place to anyone who wants to expand upon their sushi experience. Its kinda hard to find a place to park along the highway, but well worth a short walk when you do find a spot. Pricing is not as expensive as some I have been too but more expensive than others. A good relaxing night out for sushi fans of all ages.

Best Sushi Around! My husband and I went in on a busy Saturday night so it was a little wait for seating but well worth it!!! We asked the chef's to recommend some things and we were blown away! We were told that the sauce was made fresh that day. I've never had anything so wonderful. I love sushi but this place made me want to come back for more and then some. We will be back for sure!

Davin Tantalized my tastebuds. Well first my opinion might be a little bias, I deliver the seafood used at the fish joint. Even if that were not the case, the kitchen is one of the cleanest I see on my route throughout San Diego. The food is UNBELIEVABLE. What you should do is go in sit down and tell Davin or Ruben to just serve u up. Dont even order anything specific, let them take ur tastebuds on a journey. I for one do not like salmon, Davin didnt know and served me a roll with some on it. I did not want to offend him by sending it back so i popped a piece into my mouth and WOW. If you live in SD or are just coming to visit, this is a MUST eat at place. There are usually only a few jewels per city as far ass great food goes, and this is at the top of our citys list. Im getting the itch to go back as i type this. Not cool cuz they are 45 mins away from me. But it is so worth the drive. So go have some great sushi and awesome local brews.

best sushi, great place Well first of all if you looking for your easy going sushi bar this is the place its has some great facts about this place, one thing they do is that they accept local artist to auction off there art the also have two brother and wife and family that work there and yes they are two white guys behind the bar, but I dont know last time I checked when has america every invented their own food, united states has adopted everyone elses food from around the world so I personaly think its amazing to see another culture adopting another food to make. on another note this place serves a local brewery beer pizza port beer on tap.
You see I love going to places that like to keep it local. So if you would like to try some thing new try this place.

WELL WORTH IT!!!! I'm in town for business this week so I asked the girl at the front desk of my hotel where the locals eat.She suggested that I check o'side alive & there it was everything I wanted to know! What a great website! On to The Fish Joint,I almost skipped this place because of a recent review I read, but my third night here I had a sushi craving &the other spots looked like all you can eat spots -ok -but I wanted real sushi. What an amazing place! Who would have thought that some of the best sushi i've ever had would be at this little place in oceanside? Both the Sushi-Chef and the waitress treated me like family right off the bat.I started off with some beautiful oysters the chef then made me a sashimi selection that i'd be lucky to get back in New York.I topped it off with sushi Jalapeno poppers that I chased with a beer from Oceanside Ale Works also A+ .I will definatley return!

| I Liked: Local artwork |
| I didn't like: Forgettable food at high prices |
Disappointing This place has gone downhill - the prices have always been significantly higher than other sushi spots but at least a year ago the food fully justified the premium. I went recently and was altogether dissatisfied - the appetizer was oversalted and rubbery and the rolls we ordered were completely forgettable. As much as I enjoy the ambiance (especially some excellent local artwork) I have to say this is the only redeeming quality - I hate to say it, but this is one to be avoided.

Like a night out on the town! My boyfriend and I went in on a Friday night but it was packed! We really didn't want to wait but there were so many people there that we knew, we didn't want to leave! It was like going out to the bars, but a much better place to see people we know. The food was awesome as was the service and for sure the atmosphere. I'm excited to see that we can actually go somewhere other than a bar and have such a great time! I will be back for sure! Next time with THE GIRLS!!!

FISH JOINT--not your fathers sushi bar TO be honest I was a little apprehensive when I first read a menu and saw an american behind the sushi bar. The menu looked great but I enjoy the basics(traditional) just as much as I do adventure. After a 20 min. wait we were seated at the bar and immediately put at ease with not only the best Jappaneese Yellowtail Ive had in along time, but Kanpachi(a cousin of the yellowtail). My date,(more of a roll eater)had the Mango Maddness and the Chronic roll, both were really good! I will be back for the live Sea Urchin.

Fish Joint -- not so much Try a real sushi place... Kurando is good in Oside. Fish Joint - Uppity Tweaker Service, fair fish, over sauced rolls. Best about it is the beer (Pizza Port - nice) and the Tako is good. Medicore at best. Hill Street Cafe next door - same owner - much better

Interesting place This is definitely the yuppy surfer joint. It acts like a surfer joint with the atmosphere but the prices are definitely yuppy or dink lifestyle. Sushi is good but the specialty rolls all seem very similar. I do recommend the Scooby snacks.

The Fish Joint is my new addiction. They have awesome sushi, very original house rolls, and they serve the Carlsbad Chronic beer from Pizza Port. The restaurant itself has A LOT of personality, from the decorations to the menu. The service is always great too. Younger staff, hip and friendly. Don't hesitate to go, this place is packed with a ll of my favorites!
