Event Information
The trading began at 8am Sunday, September 25 th at the Fall Antiques on Mission Outdoor Market on Mission Avenue in Downtown. Many anticipated finding just the right treasure. Some brought their own treasures for appraisal. Our own volunteer Lorna Stofer brought photos of her Great Grandfather’s Civil War commission for a professional evaluation. The weather brought a typical day in our Oceanside paradise, not a cloud in the sky. Music began at 10 am and many folks sat and enjoyed food and drink while listening to the Johnny Free band on stage. The day continued with entertainer Peter Hall and his guitar/harmonica and more shopping! I noticed that many of the shoppers spent the entire day perusing the merchandise. People with bags of goodies were everywhere!
Like all MainStreet events the Antiques on Mission Outdoor Market brings a unique demographic to Downtown. The crowd is mature with some discretionary income. During Ofest over the Independence Day weekend young people flock to the area looking to be entertained, and in the fall Dia De Los Muertos attracts Hispanics, families, art lovers and culture minded guests. Take a look at your market. Who do you want to attract to your place of business? Are you doing everything you can to appeal to the thousands that are brought nearby your store during different annual Downtown events? Think outside the box like Jorge MacDonald owner of Muchobueno Mexican Restaurant who I saw passing out lunch coupons to both antiques dealers and guests. If you have ideas or need ideas give me a call and we can brainstorm some marketing strategies that will give your business a presence at future events.
Happy fall! Paula
