100s of events occur every year in downtown Oceanside and on our beautiful beaches. Here’s a list of some of the better-known events.

City Festivals and Parades

OFEST SIZZLING SUMMER BEACH BREAK

FREEDOM DAYS PARADE

Date: July 1

ANTIQUES ON MISSION

Date: September 10
Details: Show features genuine antiques, collectible, handmade arts and crafts, and fine art. Entertainment, food, on site appraisals of your treasures. Public information Number: (760) 967-2005 www.msoceanside.com

OCEANSIDE HARBOR DAYS

Date: September 16-17
Details: Arts, Crafts, and Food vendor booths with special entertainment programs and participatory events: including live entertainment, children;s area, static military and civilian displays, hail and sail, canoe and sailboat races and a car show. www.oceansidechamber.com

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS

Date: October 29
Details: Street festival celebrating the lives of deceased loved ones with ofrendas/altars built in the streets. Event has educational programs, food, music, and shopping. Ocean Sports

SURFING AMERICA USA SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Date: July 10-16
Details: Surfing competition. Championship event for top American surfers of all ages. Public Contact Phone:(949) 276-4660

OCEANSIDE WORLD BODYSURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Date: August 26-27
Details: Bodysurfing contest run in heats by age group. Judges on pier. Public contact phone: (760) 802-7452.

22ND ANNUAL OCEANSIDE LONGBOARD SURFING CLUB CONTEST & BEACH FESTIVAL

Date: August 17-20
Details: This event is an annual surf club competition with up to 18 different clubs participating. This competition will also have a pro noseriding event and food & vendor booths. Multicultural Events

JUNETEENTH MULTICULTURAL STREET FAIR

Date: June 17
Details: Annual event conducted by the North San Diego County NAACP which includes music, entertainment, street vendors and more. Public Contact Phone: (760) 754-9686.

INTER-TRIBAL POW WOW

Location: San Luis Rey Mission Grounds (4050 Mission Ave., Oceanside)
Details: Native American dances, games, food booths, arts and craft booths, sharing of out culture with public and other Native Americans. Public Information Number: (760) 724-8505.

OCEANSIDE SAMOAN CULTURAL CELEBRATION

Date: June 26-July 4
Details: Celebration of the Samoan Culture. Event includes July 1-2nd concert at the Pier Amphitheater. Basketball, volleyball, and softball tournaments during other dates.

    San Luis Rey Mission Indian Foundation will sponsor the San Luis Rey Band of Luiseno Mission Indians Eleventh Annual Inter-Tribal Powwow on Saturday and Sunday, June 9th and 10th, 2007. This free two-day event shares with the community local tribal history and spiritual traditions of the Luiseno people.

    The Powwow will be held Saturday, June 9th and Sunday June 10th, on the grounds of the Old Mission San Luis Rey, 4050 Mission Avenue, Oceanside, CA.

    The event schedule is as follows: Saturday, June 9, 2007, 9:00 am-11:00 pm; Sunday, June 10, 2007, 10:00 am-6:00 pm. Gourd Dancing will start at 10:00 am both days. Grand Entry will be at Noon & 7:00 pm on Saturday, and at Noon on Sunday. Intertribal and Competition Dancing will follow Grand Entries on both days.

    Powwows celebrate Native American culture and many different tribes will be represented in dance, art, and music. The event consists of Gourd Dancing, Grand Entries, Intertribal Dancing, and Competition Dancing including: Northern and Southern Traditional, Grass, Fancy, Fancy Shawl, and Jingle. Indian tacos and fry bread are a favorite among participants and spectators alike. Visitors will enjoy shopping and browsing through the vendor village consisting of many unusual and unique Native American jewelry, artwork, music and crafts.

    The public is invited and welcomed to come, enjoy and learn about Native American culture.
